Re: your question about story telling

Hey guys,

Yesterday I wrote an episode on the importance of story telling.  I got several good questions regarding that email, and today I’m going to answer one of the best.

Pay close attention—it’s a good question, and even better answer.

What if everything you ever thought you knew about dating and relationships was just plain wrong?  Would you keep doing the same things and getting the same results?  Or would you try something new and radically different?  To stop dating, and

start living, go to http://www.johnalanis.com/ultimate_system.htm before this site is removed.

Hey John,

Thanks for the reminder about storytelling. Question: you know of any good info-resources I can use to hone my storytelling skills?

Thank,

Andy

p.s. I lifeguard in the summer (part-time) and can assure you that me being in a position of authority, in a fun environment where women outnumber men at least 3-1 on a daily basis… talk about setting yourself up for attraction :)

JA:  Thanks for the email, Andy—great question.  Actually the way I learned to tell stories was by paying attention to story tellers whom I found interesting and engaging.  What I do is model the parts of their style I like, and ignore the parts I don’t like.  I’ve taken elements from several people I find consistently funny, mixed them together and developed my own style.

You’ll find elements of Bill Parcells, Dan Kennedy, Chet Rowland, and other personal friends in my story-telling.  There’s nothing really original, but all together, it gives me an original style.

And yeah, you can’t beat life-guarding as an automatic attraction system.

On with the fun….
