Creatures of similar plumage

Hey Guys,
One of my all time favorite Bill Parcells sayings is this: “Creatures of similar plumage tend to congregate in close proximity to each other.”
That is, of course, a more memorable way of saying “birds of a feather flock together,” a phrase more people need to pay attention to.

What if everything you ever thought you knew about dating and relationships was just plain wrong? Would you keep doing the same things and getting the same results? Or would you try something new and radically different? To stop dating, and

There are two reasons for this. First off, like it or not you are judged by the company you keep. Right or wrong, if you associate with turds, and one of them blows up, you’ll be associated with that.
It doesn’t matter how much you polish up these turds either in your own mind or to others—people generally know who the turds are, and if you associate with them, you’ll be judged with them.
Secondly, you tend to take on the attitudes and values of the company you keep. You can take a group of straight laced individuals, invite two hell raisers into their ranks, and soon enough they’ll all be raising hell.
You have to choose the creatures you congregate with wisely and carefully, and you have to carefully identify their real plumage. Some of them are masters of disguise, able to appear to be who they are not, and they use this to gain access to people who would (or should) never otherwise associate with them.
I’m very carefully who I associate with on a business level, and on a personal level. There are people who values, beliefs, and behaviors are wildly inconsistent with mine, and I do my best to limit my contact with them.
See, no matter how much you try, the more you associate with a group of people, the more you become like them. That’s why you must choose your groups wisely, AND you must be sure there are no turds in the group.
It’s a sad fact of human nature, but it’s absolutely true. If you put a turd in a group of good guys, he’ll turn a few of them into turds, and destroy the group. The team is only as strong as its weakest link, and yes it does only take one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch.
If you take a good guy and put him in a group comprised of turds, he won’t be the “good apple” that redeems them. More often than not, he’ll turn into a turd too, and once a turd, always a turd.
So, be very, very careful who you associate with. Make decisions about people based on their past and present behaviors and observable values, not who they say they are or who they pretend to be. The more charismatic and fun these individuals are, the more trouble they eventually cause because they attract so many people to them who don’t think about the power of association.
On with the fun…
