Why I ban all refunders from my life and business and you should too

Hey guys,

A few days ago someone purporting to be a "fellow dating expert" ordered my product. He said he was possibly interested in a "joint venture" with me. The next day he requested a refund, saying he "saw what he needed to see from his order."

So, I did what I do with all refunders: had my customer service manager instantly refund him, remove him from all my lists and ban him from ever doing business with me again. He was quite shocked by this, and whined about the "harshness" of it. He certainly got no sympathy from me and I had my customer service manager tell him to never contact me again--I have no use for someone who says they want to do a deal with me, then refund.

Why do I ban all people who refund, and why should you remove people from your life who habitually refund? The answer is simple: it is an anti-success habit, a commitment to NOT succeeding.

I've been in direct marketing for a long time now, and I'm in the rare position of observing human behavior on a mass level. I get to see how different groups of people respond differently to the same input (i.e. sales material and product). Some take action with the material, and get results. Some buy it because they like to buy, but never do anything with it. And, a small minority (about 7% as a general mail order average) buy with the full intention of refunding.

See, a refunder makes the decision to refund BEFORE they buy.
They've already decided that "it" won't "work for them." They've placed responsibility on the product, not on themselves and people like that will do everything they can, consciously and subconsciously to make your life as miserable as theirs.

Now, in this market, I have been pleasantly surprised to find the refund rate is much lower than the average mail order return rate.
While that obviously says that my products deliver, what it says more so is that, most of you guys are true doers who take your success seriously. While I'll take credit for putting together the product, the only person who can take credit for implementation and results is you.

Refunders, to an extent, are amusing to me. Not amusing enough to keep around (that's why I ban them) but amusing to observe in the context of guys taking action and getting results. I get a ton of unsolicited testimonials from guys who went through the same sales process, and got the exact same product as the refunder did. What's the difference between the two? Obviously not the product--it's how the refunder views the world.

Another pathetically amusing thing about refunders is when they refund. It's either a day or two after they've gotten the product, and determined "it won't work for me" or at a time of the year when they need money, especially after Christmas or before tax time (ask any internet or mail order marketer about this--it's all too predictable). Instead of taking action and making sure they have money to pay the bills they've rung up, they run around desperately looking for things they can get their money back on. Instead of making money by creating value for others, they are destroying value, asking for refunds on products they never used.

Why then, do I offer a guarantee if I'm going to ban refunders?
The answer is simple: in this market there are some scoundrels who make grand promises and don't deliver. Some people have been burned before. Others are just plain skeptical of everything and feel better when they see a guarantee. Many times these guys turn into the best doers because their skepticism turns to excitement when they see the results of the action they take based on the information they invested in.

I like guys like this--I'm skeptical of just about everything until I've proven it to myself. But I never refund anything because, no matter how bad the product, I'm always able to get at least one good idea from it-- I've made a lot of money from ideas I got from wretched products. This is the attitude of the successful person, "how can I get at least one good idea from everything I invest in" whereas the attitude of the refunder is, "it didn't work for me," always putting the onus on "it" instead of "I."

And that's the biggest reason I detest and ban refunders. They bring no value to me, nor to anyone else on this list. Many of the secrets I share with you have come from doers taking action, discovering something new, and excitedly sharing their success with me. That's the real value on this list, and refunders take away from that. So, whenever one shows up, I ban them for good.

It's a philosophy all successful people adopt--get rid of those people who have a negative impact on your life. If you have any people in your life who habitually freeload or refund, it's a good idea to get rid of them if at all possible. They will bring no value to your life at all, constantly blaming "it" for their troubles, and eventually "you," but NEVER "I."
