The price of freedom

What people say vs what people do

Hey guys,

A while back a friend of mine who used to take on clients as a personal trainer told me an interesting story. One day, while training a client, he got into a conversation with him about salesmanship and selling techniques.

He describe the Tom Hopkins six step selling process to his client, and here's what the guy said, "Well, it sounds good in theory, but it would never work on me."

Now, think about that for just a minute. Here the guy is, a client of my friend, telling him that his sales process would never "work on him," never realizing that the "process that would never work on him" was how he became a client in the first place!

People do this all the time- -assigning conscious processes to unconscious behavior, never realizing that what they respond to and what they say they respond to are two different things.

I have women tell me that "what you teach guys would never work on me," yet when you look at how the guy she's with attracted her, he did exactly what I teach. But whenever you point this out to them, they always say, "oh no, I liked him on my own."

One of the most important things you can realize about people is that what they say really has very little to do with what they respond to, and that is especially true when it comes to attraction. You have to pay attention to recurring behavior, not recurring words. Unless they are specifically trained, most people are completely unaware of their unconscious responses to external behavior of others.

So, when it comes to attraction, pay attention not to what women say, but to their recurring, underlying behavior--that's the secret men who are successful with women truly understand.
