Do you listen to WIIFM? She does…

Hey guys,

When I got started in direct marketing, the first thing I learned was how pathetically bad most ads are. What makes them so wretched? Lots of things, but the biggest thing is this: they all talk about the business owner, not the prospect.

For example, you'll often see vague generalities like "we're the best" or "we offer quality, integrity and honesty," or "in business since 1492."

All of these ads just plain suck. Why? Because they don't answer the WIIFM question--What's In It For Me. When someone (you) reads an ad, you don't care about the business, you care about YOU. You want to know how that product or service will benefit you.

The same thing applies to attracting women, especially when it comes to writing an online profile. If you look at what most guys write, you'll see they yammer on about themselves, never telling the woman WIIFM. I recently received an email regarding this, and I want to share it with you, plus the changes I'd recommend to this man's profile.

I recently posted another profile on a email dating site. I interested in what women's response to a guy who is sincere & passionate about that it takes two to date also (actively, physically, economically to attract). This is my words about myself:

"I am a computer technician by profession & a life seeker by liesure. Standing at 5'10" & weighing 189lbs I love to workout & am easy on the eyes. Sharing my life with my 9 yr old son is most important to me. Sharing my life with an sincere, honest woman is too. With all the things that I enjoy doing with family an the significant other, there are times I don't have enough money for two. So I am seeking a relationship with the woman who doesn't mine going 50/50 on a relationship, sharing the responsibility of us attracting & entertaining each other."

I have had 24 women view the profile but no winks or any responses yet. What's your opinion to this profile script & the responses I'm getting.

JA: Vince, thanks for the question. Go back and read your profile, counting how many times you use the word "I." Your profile is all about you. There is no compelling reason for a woman to respond to your ad--it's the same as every other guy's ad out there. Plus you're telling her, "well, I don't have much money, and I have a son who takes up a lot of my time, as well as my other family, and I'm looking for someone to help me out." That may not be your intent, but that's what it says.

You need to let her know the benefits of spending time with you. While this is very rough (and off the cuff), it's a heck of a lot better than what you've written:

"Attention women who are frustrated with wussy, wimpy nice guys:

Are you looking for a MAN you can't wait to spend time with, one who can make you feel all kinds of wonderful things in your mind and body, one you wait by the phone, hoping for his call? Then keep reading because, you may have just found him.

My name is Vince, and I'm a stable, grounded, fit father, with a fun, at times, "naughty" side looking for a bright, fun, intelligent woman who delights in bringing that side out in a man. Are you the woman for me? Maybe, maybe not, but keep reading, and we'll find out together."

Then you simply give her more benefits, and tell her how to contact you. Can you see how the ad leads with benefits, and lets her know you understand her dating world? It also gives her challenges, and lets her know you're the one in authority.

Here's one suggestion for you: I had my customer service staff check my database, and they can find no record of any order on your part. I cover online dating in extensive detail in the Deluxe Version of my Ultimate Unlimited Lifetime of Power and Success with Women System, and I highly recommend you get your hands on it. Learning how to write compelling copy for online profiles is one of the most important skills you can master, and I show you how to do just that (look at how quickly I was able to write the lead in for your ad--three minutes). You can get your hands on it at http://www.johnalanis.com/ultimate_system.htm

On with the fun....
