It’s a movie about high school, and does a good job capturing the moment of kids moving from high school to junior high, from junior to senior, etc.

When I saw it the first time, I was with a group of wireline hands who were seeing it for the first time. Most of these guys had started working in the oil field right out of high school, and never knew anything else.

After the movie was over, several of the guys got a bit emotional, saying “man, that was just like when I was in high school…it brought back a lot of memories.”

At first I was a little perplexed by this—I’d enjoyed high school, had a great time in college, but now I’d moved onto to other things with no desire to go back.

All of the guys I’d watched the movie with said they wished they could go back in time and relive those memories again. And then, I finally understood why.

One of the older guys (older meaning in his late 30’s) stood up and said, “man, that was a movie about the best days of my life,” and everyone present agreed (except me, although I didn’t say anything).

I thought that was pathetic then, and I think it even more so now, 17 years later. If high school is the best time of a man’s life, then he’s squandered the rest.

Looking back on my time since high school, I’ve had my share of ups and downs, but I’ve experienced a lot of amazing things because I’ve made it a point to. I’ve been places and seen things few men ever will simply because I decided to live an interesting life, not let it pass me by.

People live lives of quiet desperation because they choose to, plain and simple. All of the hands I worked with in the oil field were trapped because they didn’t have the courage to design and craft their own life. I imagine many of them are still there, if they’re not dead or injured, peeing their lives away while pining for the good ol days of high school.

Your life is, in the end, what you decide to make of it. Remember the past, but don’t live in it, and make it a priority to be sure you have even more exciting things on the horizon.

Ronald Reagan always said, “the best is yet to come,” and that’s good advice when deciding how you want to live your life. It is, after all, your choice.

Man, women can be downright mean to each other. As guys, we get a little out of sorts with other guys every now and then, but conflicts are often forgotten over food and beer, and fade into the past.

Not so with women. When they decide they don’t like another woman, they get cruel.

If you want to see a perfect example of this, look at the Newsweek cover flap. Michelle Bachman is portrayed in a very unflattering manner by the editor of Newsweek who happens to be a woman who doesn’t like Michelle Bachman.

Why do women behave like this?

It has to do with biology and evolution, competing for dominant men, something women have been doing for millions of years. It’s not “logical” nor is it conscious, is just “is” and there’s nothing you can do about it.

However, it can be beneficial to you as a man in this way: if you want to keep a woman around, let her know she’s superior to other women in your view, and that’s why you chose her.

Women love to feel superior to other women, especially when validated by a man. That’s why they want to have the biggest rings, and the grandest weddings so they can rub it into the faces of their friends.

Right or wrong, women love to make their friends jealous. They don’t want to bitch about the guy in their lives to their friends, they want to brag about him while their friends bitch about the men in their lives.

It’s human nature to want to be and feel superior to other people, but it goes a lot deeper when women are competing with women. It gets down and dirty, mean and nasty, even cruel and unusual.

But, if you, as a man, go out of your way to make the woman in your life feel superior to all other women, she will be attracted to you in a way few women are attracted to few men.

Like it or not, this is how the world works—I don’t make the rules, I just report them.

Hey Guys,

Many years ago, I worked with a friend of mine who sold how to make more money products. Whenever the refund requests would come in, I always made it a point to read the notes.

After awhile I realized they were all the same note, and they said all the same thing. Not a one of them said, “I wasn’t able to get results with it,” they all said, “it didn’t work for me.”

I also read all the success stories, and those too had the same structure. Not a one of them said, “it worked for me,” they all said, “I got your system, I put it to work, and here are the results I got.”

All the refunders (failures) claimed “it” didn’t work, while all the success stories used the word “I.”

It was as plain as day to see that the refunders took no responsibility for their outcomes while the success stories took complete responsibility for their outcomes.

What was even more interesting was that just about none of the refunders had done any work—many had not even opened the product, quitting before they began.

But the success stories all did work, and they all worked differently. Many didn’t get results the first time, but they kept at it, persevered and finally got their results. They were willing to work, the refunders were not.

The language you use says a lot about yourself. All successful people I know use the word “I” both when they fail and when they succeed. All outcomes are their fault, both good and bad.

All failures I know constantly use the word “it,” as if they have no control over their life. They constantly whine, pee, and moan about how unfair it all is, and how nothing is their fault.

If you’re on my list, reading this, it’s a good chance you use the word “I” instead of “it”—if not, change your language. But who you associate with plays a large outcome in the results in your life, and you always want to associate with the “I’s” not the it’s.

I’s are for winners, it’s for losers.

One of the big reasons men fail at attraction is because deep down, they don’t believe they’re attractive.

If an attractive woman talks to them, smiles at them, or makes eye contact with them, they either shy away or presume she’s looking at someone else.

To them, women not being attracted to them is normal and customary. When a woman does give an indication of interest, it either fills them with doubt, makes them nervous, or they simply think she’s flirting with someone else.

It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. She picks up on the doubt and nervousness, then starts to wonder if there’s something wrong with her because he’s not responding to her overtures.

She walks away, and yet again his belief set is reinforced, and he goes on believing he’s an unattractive guy.

For many years I dealt with this issue until I finally decided to just do the opposite. I decided to adopt the belief set that it was normal and customary for a woman to be attracted to me and to flirt with me, and that I would simply deal with all women coming from that mindset.

Wow, what a difference it made. Instead of looking away when a woman smiled at me, I smiled back and looked her in the eye with my famous naughty boy smile.

Instead of acting like a dead fish around her, I initiated touch. When she talked to me, I started teasing her back, and most importantly I started to have a good time just talking to women.

I started to have a lot of success, and guess what? That reinforced my belief set that I was, indeed, an attractive man and that created a self fulfilling prophecy.

I expected women to be attracted to me, and when they were in my presence, they felt confidence instead of doubt, and sexual energy instead of awkwardness.

This all happened because of a change in belief about myself. It is amazing how powerful this is. Adopt the belief that it is normal and customary for women to feel attraction in your presence, and you will become instantly more successful.

Hey Guys,

Everywhere you look there’s bad news. The US AAA credit rating is downgraded. Unemployment is stubbornly high. The Philadelphia Eagles are anointed Superbowl champions before the season even starts.

Whatever is a man to do?

While I think it is important to pay attention to the news, I think it is also important to understand that bad news sells. Always has, always will.

After all, there is plenty of good news. Bill Phillips, who started and sold EAS supplements and created the Body for Life Challenge is about to open a chain of healthy fast food restaurants called LifeKitchen and just got a high level executive from McDonald’s to come work for him.

That’s good news.

I know a fellow marketer who just shot a sales video that increased his conversions by 334%–that’s good news, especially in this economy.

The NFL lockout is history, and we will have NFL football this year. That’s great news.

Many men can let their outlook on life become colored by the constant barrage of bad news, especially from so many sources. And when that happens, your ability to interact with women diminishes.

Lookit, women are attracted to men who are calm, confident, and have a positive (but realistic) outlook on the future. When they feel nervous and panicky, they want to feel grounded and secure around a man unruffled by the never ending stream of bad news foisted upon us by an ever more shrill and desperate media.

What’s a man to do? Simple: find, then create your own good news. It’s there. For example, I found and created some of my own today:

Had a great conditioning workout, beat my time to do 50 pullups by a minute, and my time to do 100 pushups while wearing a weighted vest by 38 seconds. Good news.

I tested a new promotion from a friend of mine, and the results were better than expected. Good news.

I got caught up on backed up emails from taking some time off. Good news… and now I feel pretty good.

So, don’t let all the bad news get you down. It’s never going to end. Find, then make your own good news—it’s everywhere, sadly unreported by the girlie men in the media.
