Shot down in flames

Dear friends and subscribers,

There's an old AC/DC song called "Shot down in flames," and the chorus pretty much sums up the experience every guy has had at one time or another when approaching a woman: "Ain't it a shame, to be shot down in flames."

And ol' Malcom Young is right... it is a shame to be shot down in flames. But you know what? If she approaches you first, you won't be shot down... in fact, if there's any "shooting down" to be done, you'll be the one to do it. Isn't this the way it should be?

Why I hate challenges and you should too

Hey guys...

Every now and then I get an email with a suggestion to address dealing with a "challenge," or what I call a prohibitive situation.

Usually I'm presented with a scenario, and then asked, "what would you do in this case?" For example, I recently received an email asking how I would "get back" a woman who sent a "dear john letter" saying she never wanted to see this guy again. The kicker is, she was dating the guy while he was still married. He wanted to know how I would handle this "challenge."

Another one wanted to know how to pick up strippers on a nightly basis. Another wanted to know how to get incredibly hot women at expensive night clubs to walk up to him as soon as he walked in the door.

None of these are terrible questions, but they miss the point of being successful with women completely: you need to avoid prohibitive situations and put yourself in favorable situations.

That's why I hate challenges. Why? Because they take a lot of time, energy and effort and usually produce a minimal result. I much prefer to shoot fish in a barrel with a bazooka.

What's it easier to do? Chase after inebriated women in a loud bar, hoping to be the last man standing, or sorting through 12 answers to your well written online profile, talking to four on the phone, then allowing the two you do like to meet you for coffee at a time and place of your choosing? The answer is simple: one's a challenge, and one's a lay down (so to speak).

Your chances of getting the girl at the bar are already slim to begin with, and even if you do "score" there's a very good probability you're not going to want her around long term. After all, the only thing you know about her is that she goes to bars and goes home with guys she meets in bars.

But think about the two you allow to meet with you for coffee. They had to do a lot of work, and pass a lot of YOUR tests to get to that point--the probability of you succeeding with them is darn near 100%, plus the chance of one of them being in your life for a longer period of time is substantially greater than a woman you meet at a bar.

Successful people are very, very good at avoiding challenges, not seeking them out. Don't mistake this with not improving yourself- avoiding challenges is really all about recognizing prohibitive situations from the beginning and passing on them so you can spend the maximum amount of time on the "lay downs."

Your life will be much better when you start doing this, trust me--I've had enough challenges in my life and I'll take a lay down any day of the week.
